The market-place of Buis-les-Baronnies (Drôme département) is surrounded by magnificent plane-trees. They are really appreciated as a protection against the sun, which is frequently scorching in this region.
On one of these plane-trees there is the following inscription:

Napoléon II (François Charles Joseph Bonaparte), son of Napoleon I and Marie-Louise, was proclamed King of Rome when he was born, in 1811.
For the moment, I do not know anything about this gift of plane-trees: Which cities got it? How were they selected? Why plane-trees? If you know something about it, please tell us! Thank you in advance!
