The author of the inscription did not have to mention Goethe because
if German people think of Faust, they automatically think of Goethe. So, Faust
staying in Ingolstadt is like Goethe staying there.
Obviously there have been discussions about the identity of
"this Dr. Jörg Faustus" and the reliability of the tradition it is based on.
That is why the inscription insists on the existence of an official paper and
"a reliable tradition" that prove its authenticity.
The date of the official minutes mentioned in the inscription is
the first Wednesday after June 28, 1528 (see the
English Wikipedia).
