The Dutch language is often named Flemish (especially in Belgium). In many languages, the name of the Dutch language is derived from Holland, which was the most important region of the Netherlands for several centuries. The Dutch language is spoken by about 21 - 26 million native spekers, above all in the Netherlands, but regionally even in Belgium (Flanders), northern France (Nord-Pas-de-Calais) and Germany (northern part of the Lower Rhine region) as well as in Indonesia. It is an official language in Aruba, Belgium, Curaçao, Netherlands, Sint Maarten, Suriname, European Union, and UNASUR. An important "offshoot" of the Dutch language is Afrikaans, which is spoken in the Republic of South Africa.
The following pages will present all sorts of information and didactic papers concerning the Dutch language. In the end there will be (at least let's hope so!) interesting things for everybody, for experts as well as for beginners. But for the moment, patience is necessary because such an offer can only be developed very progressively. By the way, everybody can contribute to the development of these pages either by questions, desires, or critiques, or by writing documents, texts, terminologic data, etc. Just tell us!
Please take account of our ideas as for collaboration (which will possibly have to be rediscussed for every new project).
