The fortress - Monuments of Various Nationalities - Other Monuments - Arrival
The Fortress
The fortress we are talking about is situated on the Spilberk (Spielberg) hill on the western border of the centre of Brno (Brünn) in Moravia. As the outer forifications have been razed and transformed into a park, the hill with its fortress nowadays is a popular and easy-to-reach walking destination for inhabitants and tourists. Access to the fortress is free. It is only for the museum in the catacombs, which explains the history of the fortress and its victims, that you must pay a moderate entrance fee (in 2002). Weather being fine, from the terraces of the fortress there is a splendid panorama of the city and its surroundings.
Monuments of Various Nationalities
Several monuments were erected for the victims of the Spilberk fortress near Brno, in the park around and in the wall of the fortress. The commemoration texts were written in the languages of the various nationalities. Sometimes a Czech translation was added.

Coming from the west you can choose to travel via Pragues or Vienna. From the south, Vienna is better. From the north, you should come via Pragues (north-west) od Olomouc (north-east).
