In the south of the city of Ingolstadt, beyond the Danube river, there are two big and well-preserved fortification towers with a long red wall between them and a large park (named Klenze-Park) around them. Above the entrance of the eastern tower you can see the inscription described here.

Translation

Triva Tower

Comment

The Triva tower was built as a protection of the east side of the Reduit Tilly. Its name comes from Johann Nepomuk Joseph Florian, Graf von Triva (1755 – 1827), who was Bavarian general of artillery and the first minister of war of the Bavarian kingdom. It measures 50 x 79 meters, and its walls are up to four meters thick. Initially there were 58 heavy guns on two floors, but after the construction of further fortifications the tower was transformed into barracks. Nowadays it hosts a police museum. See the banner announcing a related exhibition (Vom Tatort ins Labor = From the scene of crime to the laboratory).

This tower is one of the neo-classical fortification buildings created by Leo von Klenze. Other buildings of the same period and architect are the Reduit Tilly and the Baur tower. Leo von Klenze was court architect of the Bavarian King Ludwig I and one of the most important representatives of Greek revival style in Bavaria.

For Klenze's buildings in Munich, see also Greek Temple of the English Garden and The Greeks’ Struggle for Independence.
