Welcome
Annette von Droste-Hülshoff (1797 – 1848), who later became one of the most important German writers, was born and at first lived in the Bishopric of Münster. Though she spent the rest of her life elsewhere, above all in Meersburg, in the south of Germany, her sculpture is still here, in the city of Münster. It was created by Anton Rüller for Annette's 100th birthday.

Comment
As Annette von Droste-Hülshoff (1797 – 1848) was one of the most important German poets and the author of the well-known novella Die Judenbuche, the artist who created this sculpture felt free to limit the inscription to the personal name of this author whose works are still being read at school in Germany.
Annette von Droste-Hülshoff was born and at first lived in the Bishopric of Münster. About the end of the 18th century, this region was not really known to be literarily interesting nor interested. That is why Droste-Hülshoff made the first steps of her literary career there against her own will and she even satirized on this (see Wikipedia). During the years of her great literary success she lived down in the south of Germany, in Meersburg, on the Lake Constance. Apparently her Westphalian countrymen do not bear her malice for her behavior because her sculpture is still there, in Münster.
Annette von Droste-Hülshoff became acquainted with several important German writers, such as Clemens von Brentano, Friedrich Schlegel, and the brothers Grimm, especially Wilhelm, and she contributed folk tales from Westphalia to the Grimms' famous collection of fairy tales. But the sculpture that stands only a few meters from hers in Münster, is that of the German composer and conductor Julius Otto Grimm, who does not belong to the brothers Grimm.

Arrival by Public Transport
For the arrival in Münster, see Inscriptions of Münster.
Exiting the Münster railway station, you have the following options:
Crossing the center of the city: Go straight ahead taking the Windhorststraße, then Stubengasse and H.-Brüningstraße. At its end take the Salzstraße to the left, turn right at its end and follow the streets that continue the Prinzipalmarkt to the north (Drubbel > Roggenmarkt > Bogenstraße > Spiekerhof > Rosenstraße). Then turn right into the Schlaunstraße and continue up to its crossing with the Münzstraße, where the sculpture stands near the border of the park that you will see there. This park replaces the former Kreuzschanze (Cross Redoubt).
Going around the center of the city: Go straight ahead into the Windhorststraße but then go along the bike path (Promenade) to the right until it crosses the street which is called Am Kreuztor. Take this street to the left and you will see the sculpture after a very short way, on the edge of a park on your right. This way is simpler to find but longer to go.
Bus ride: Take a bus from the railway station to the stop called Kreuztor. It is situated near the park of the former Kreuzschanze (Cross Redoubt), where you will find the sculpture.
