Welcome
Only a few meters from Annette von Droste-Hülshoff's sculpture, is there another sculpture, whose inscription could mislead people passing by in a hurry. This is not one of the brothers Grimm, the famous German fairy tales editors and friends of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff's. As the inscription shows, it is Julius Otto Grimm (1827 - 1903), a German composer and conductor, with no relationship to the brothers Grimm.

According to the English Wikipedia, Julius Otto Grimm (1797 – 1848) was born in Pernau (now Pärnu in Estonia). He studied philology and philosophy in Dorpat, where he finished his studies in 1848. Then he worked as a private tutor in Sankt Petersburg, where he composed his first works. He continued his studies in Dresden in 1851/52, worked as a music teacher and chorus conductor in Göttingen for five years from 1855 but took a job as conductor of the Münster musical society, in 1860. From 1878, Grimm was a lecturer of music theory and vocals in Münster and directed several musical societs. Altogether he worked in Münster for 40 years and with great success. This explains why the city of Münster erected a sculpture to honor him. This sculpture stands on the border of the former Kreuzschanze, near the sculpture of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, the other famous person of the city.
The proximity of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff's sculpture and his last name should not mislead you to think he was one of the brothers Grimm. In fact, he had no relationship with them.

Arrival by Public Transport
For the arrival in Münster, see Inscriptions of Münster.
Exiting the Münster railway station, you have the following options:
Crossing the center of the city: Go straight ahead taking the Windhorststraße, then Stubengasse and H.-Brüningstraße. At its end take the Salzstraße to the left, turn right at its end and follow the streets that continue the Prinzipalmarkt to the north (Drubbel > Roggenmarkt > Bogenstraße > Spiekerhof > Rosenstraße). Then turn right into the Schlaunstraße and continue up to its crossing with the Münzstraße, where the sculpture stands near the border of the park that you will see there. This park replaces the former Kreuzschanze (Cross Redoubt).
Going around the center of the city: Go straight ahead into the Windhorststraße but then go along the bike path (Promenade) to the right until it crosses the street which is called Am Kreuztor. Take this street to the left and you will see the sculpture after a very short way, on the edge of a park on your right. This way is simpler to find but longer to go.
Bus ride: Take a bus from the railway station to the stop called Kreuztor. It is situated near the park of the former Kreuzschanze (Cross Redoubt), where you will find the sculpture.
