Comment

In former centuries and till World War II, the southern part of Hungary was largely inhabited by German-speaking settlers who had been summoned to cultivate uninhabited regions and to defend them against foreign (especially Turkish) attacks. By the way, the Germans are not the only non-Hungarian ethnic group of this region equally inhabited by descendants of Slavonic tribes.

Note that on the wayside cross the man has still a German first name, but his wife has already a Hungarian one.

Arrival by Public Transport

Magyarhertelend is located on the railway line Komló - Kaposvár. From the station go to the center of the village.

There is a nice, mostly shady, and well-marked hiking path that comes from Magyarhertelend (near the swimming-baths) respectively Kekeres.
